Traffic
Total 2008 throughput amounted to 4,286,963 tonnes, compared with 4,212,109 tonnes in 2007, up 74,854 tonnes (+1.8%).
The rise mainly results from :
container traffic : 1,985,743 T in 2008 compared with 1,767,729 T in 2007 (up 218,014 T or 12%) ;
liquid bulk traffic - essentially oil products (over 90,000 T) : 780,753 T in 2008 compared with 676,190 T in 2007, up 104,563 T or 15.5%.
Such increases are weighted on total tonnage mad, considering drops seen in :
imported solid bulk traffic (caol : - 54,000 T and cement + clinker : - 60,000 T) which fell from 1,522,505 T in 2007 to 1,372,580 T in 2008, down 149,925 T or - 9.8% ;
sugar exports fell from 182,000 T in 2007 to 166,000 T in 2008 down 16,000 T or - 9.6% ;
import drops seen in palletized goods, big bags, load units or large units, whose total tonnage fell from 182,721 T in 2007 to 83,834 T in 2008.
Private car imports were up again by 4.65% with 1,482 more units : 33,324 in 2008 comparde with 31,842 units in 2007.
