Mauritius freeport authority
The Mauritius Freeport (MFA) was created in 1992 with the objective of positioning Port Louis as a hub and promoting its as a warehousing, distribution, marketing and logistics platform for the development of trade in the Indian ocean region.
MFA is the sole authority responsible for the management and control of the Freeport zones. It acts as a facilitator, and its functions include:
Issuing of licences to companies operating in the Mauritius Freeport
Allocating operational space and any other facility or structure available in the Freeport zones
Working out agreements with third parties to provide additional or backup services to Freeport licence holders
Promoting and developing incremental trade
Assisting Freeport companies in finding reliable and competitive sources of supply, and in penetrating and developing markets for their products.
Freeport activities ranges from warehousing to minor assembly and includes:
Import and re-export of dry and frozen goods
Warehousing and storage
Value added transformation through such operations as simple assembly and minor processing
Sorting, grading, cleaning and mixing
Ship building, repairs and maintenance of ships and aircrafts
Freight forwarding
Quality control and inspection services
